THE TOP SECRET GUIDE TO STAYING ANONYMOUS

Disclaimer: We intentionally request as little personal identification information as possible from users, and keep all collected data secure inside our proprietary recruiting database. These tips are not recommended for all users and fabricating or omitting information may affect a user’s likelihood of being recruited. For more information on our collection, use, and protection of data, please see our Privacy Policy.

So…you want to join, but don’t wanna share your personal info with us? Here are some tips and workarounds for users looking to stay anonymous but still participate in our opportunities.

  1. If you don’t want to share your name… share only your first name. (We don’t ask for your last name, anyway.) You will have to sign an NDA before participating, which will require your legal name, but those signatures are processed digitally through a secure platform.

  2. If you don’t want to share your ZIP code… then don't. This only matters if you intend to participate in-person, so if you only want to participate online, you can enter any zip code (or arrangement of numbers). But, if you don't put in your actual ZIP code, you forfeit the chance to participate in-person. (Want your cake and eat it, too? Put in a nearby ZIP code to stay both eligible and anonymous.)

  3. If you don’t want to share your email address… use an alias email or email hiding service. (Just make sure you can reliably receive emails at the address you enter.) We will only send you emails for the following reasons: 1) to confirm your account, 2) if you ever need to change your password, 3) if you've been chosen for an opportunity or 4) we send you a screener to complete.

  4. If you don’t want to share your phone number… A phone number is required to sign up with us, but there are a few options for anonymity. Our recommendation for an anonymous solution is using a temporary/vanity phone number through a service like Google Voice. The other option is to enter a series of sequential digits (ie., 0-000-000-0000), which will show our recruiters you do not want to be contacted by phone. Note that our recruiting process is exponentially more efficient when we have access to phone communications, so screener submissions or accounts without listed or viable phone numbers listed are less likely to be selected.

  5. If you don’t want to share your birth month and year… submit something close. We ask for the month and year (never the date) of your birth to accurately age each participant for demographic studies. It is very important that your age be accurately represented in the system, as it may affect your eligibility for studies. You may enter any date you wish, but know only users 13+ are allowed to participate.

We hope you feel confident entrusting us with the very limited amount of information we request upon signup, but we understand if using these ultra-secure methods of data sharing are a better fit for you.

If you have any questions or concerns about signing up, account security, or anything else, please feel free to reach out to our team at join@wellplayedresearch.com. We hope to see you online or in the lab soon!
